Partner | Estate Planning
For over 30 years, Larry R. Cox has specialized in providing estate planning advice to a diverse range of clients. Larry, a partner at Young Wooldridge since 1983, is adept in drafting estate plans, probate law and probate litigation, including the contesting of wills and trusts.
Larry earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Arizona in 1972. Shortly after graduation, Larry was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force, earning the rank of captain. Following his stint in the Air Force, Larry returned to school, earning his law degree from the University of South Carolina in 1978. He was admitted to the South Carolina State Bar in 1979, and later that year, Larry was admitted to the California State Bar. Before moving to California, Larry was the Law Clerk for the Chief Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court, a highly sought after position.
Larry has over 30 years of experience assisting clients with estate planning needs and has the ability to resolve most matters without the time and expense of a long court proceeding. In the event others wrongfully attack your plan, Larry has earned a reputation in the community as an excellent trust and probate litigator in court. He has successfully handled numerous appeals, four of which resulted in published opinions in West’s California Reporter, a multi-volume law reference set that contains opinions and decisions issued by California state courts. In three of these cases, Larry’s efforts resulted in the reversal of the initial court ruling.
In addition to Larry’s vast experience with appeals courts, he has handled many major litigation matters. In one particular case against a major corporation, Larry was able to obtain judgment, as well as an eight figure payment in favor of his client.
Through the years, Larry has developed the skill and know-how to avoid the pitfalls associated probate documents. He works hard to provide the best possible result for his clients when litigation arises and believes it’s important to handle each case individually for the unique needs of each client.
Larry and his wife Joan have three adult children and attend church regularly where he plays bass on the church worship team.
